Michigan basketball set for rematch with Northwestern

Northwestern’s aggressive defense forced 18 Michigan turnovers in an 85-78 win over Northwestern last month at Crisler Center. The Wildcats double teamed center Hunter Dickinson, who scored 10 points on just 8 shots. However, the Wolverines had answers.

Michigan scored 41 of its 85 points on ball screens (including passes), generating 0.976 points per possession, and played more through its guards than through Dickinson, who was being swarmed by multiple defenders. Northwestern didn’t want Dickinson to beat it. He didn’t. But Michigan made the Wildcats pay and won anyway.

The shots were falling, with Michigan going 10-of-22 from three-point range. That’s three out of four games shooting 42 percent or better from distance. When it’s getting 3 made triples from freshman point guard Dug McDaniel, 2 from sophomore guard Kobe Bufkin and an unsurprising 4 from Jett Howard, it’s a tough team to beat.
