2022 Michigan basketball signee Dug McDaniel continues to put together a stellar senior season at Fairfax (Va.) Paul VI in the highly-competitive Washington Catholic Athletic Conference, the league that produced current Michigan sophomore center Hunter Dickinson and sophomore forward Terrance Williams II. He had 17 points and six assists in a win over Bishop McNamara.

In eight games of recorded statistics, McDaniel is averaging 18.1 points, 9.3 assists and 1.1 rebounds per game. He’s also shooting 41.4 percent from beyond the arc. If he can keep those outside shooting numbers up, he may be able to make an early impact with Michigan. The Wolverines have struggled to find consistent outside shooting this season, and freshman point guard Frankie Collins — while talented and possessing a bright future — doesn’t appear to be the answer in that area.

Ohio State athletic director Gene Smith had an hour-long session with the media Wednesday, and made some interesting comments. With the expansion of the College Football Playoff appearing to be on the horizon, Smith said that — if higher seeds host games in the future — he wouldn’t want the Buckeyes hosting a late-December contest in Columbus, instead hoping to play indoors at Lucas Oil Stadium. He cited the potential of snow as a reason why, sparking Michigan fans to have some fun on Twitter. The Wolverines, of course, trounced the touchdown-favorite Buckeyes, 42-27, in snowy conditions at The Big House last November. Ohio State players and coaches have made every excuse in the book — weather, illness, etc. — and it doesn’t appear

“I don’t want a hard surface for the players,” Smith said, according to Eleven Warriors. “And I know the fans would love to have it in the Shoe and maybe it’s snowing or we’re playing whoever, but that surface is a whole new ballgame. And I would prefer to have the indoor elements and have a clean field. If it was this year, I would want (Ohio State quarterback C.J. Stroud) to have good weather. It’s just that simple.

“We’ve been blessed to have experiences in (Lucas Oil Stadium) playing in the Big Ten championship and I think our fans understand that environment, they love the hotels, they love the restaurants and all that. So while it’s difficult to take it away from the Shoe, I still think that’s the right thing to do for the players in the game.”

Michigan head football coach Jim Harbaugh has agreed to a contract extension that runs through the 2026 season, the program announced Wednesday afternoon. The terms of the deal are not yet known.

“I love Michigan Football, the University of Michigan and the Ann Arbor community,” Harbaugh said in a statement. “My family and I are excited to continue leading this football program, and we are thankful for the support that our athletic department and university administration have demonstrated toward the team. I appreciate all that our players, coaches and staff are doing to excel on and off the football field.”
