Former Michigan basketball transfer commit Caleb Love chooses new school
Caleb Love was briefly a Michigan Wolverine, but never officially signed on the dotted line before backing out of his commitment. And now, he has a new school to take his talents to as one of the top transfer guards in the country.
According to his social media channels, Love has committed to the University of Arizona and head coach Tommy Lloyd. Love averaged 16.7 points, 3.7 rebounds and 2.8 assists last season for the Tar Heels, who finished 20-13 and missed the NCAA Tournament.
Love started 95 of 101 games played with the Tar Heels, averaging 14.6 points per game. He is a career 36% shooter (31.7% from three-point range) in 32.8 minutes per night. Michigan received a commitment from him in early April, but he backed out of it on May 17 due to a reported admissions issue.
The Wolverines have three available scholarships for next season after the departures of freshman wing Jett Howard (NBA Draft), sophomore guard Kobe Bufkin (NBA Draft), junior center Hunter Dickinson, sophomore guard Isaiah Barnes and freshman forward Gregg Glenn (transfer portal) and the additions of Nimari Burnett and Tray Jackson. An additional spot opened after incoming freshman Papa Kante asked out of his letter of intent at Michigan.

The Wolverines lack proven star power on the roster with the Love recruitment falling through and losing their three best players from last season in Bufkin, Dickinson and Howard. All hope is not lost, though, with a big fish that will make its way to Ann Arbor in the coming days.
Michigan will get a visit this weekend from former Tennessee forward Olivier Nkamhoua this weekend in hopes to add a starting-caliber option via the transfer portal. It remains to be seen who else the program could be in on as it continues to piece together its roster ahead of the 2023-24 season.
