Michigan basketball: Transfer portal guard currently in town for visit
Michigan basketball continues to work on its roster for the 2023-24 season and another target has made his way to campus. Former Toledo Rockets guard RayJ Dennis is on campus for a visit with the Wolverines.
Dennis is currently On3’s third-best available player in the transfer portal and No 32 overall transfer in the current cycle. Michigan got an up-close look at him during the team’s 90-80 win over the Rockets in the NIT, where Dennis dropped 13 points and 8 assists.
“RayJ Dennis is the reigning MAC Player of the Year after averaging 19.6 points and 5.8 assists on 36.5 percent shooting from three,” On3’s Jamie Shaw wrote on Friday. “Dennis started off at Boise State, where he spent his first two seasons, then transferred to Toledo, where he spent his last two years. Dennis declared for the NBA Draft and went through the early parts of the process. The graduate transfer is now starting to piece together his college visits.

“The 6-foot-2 Dennis is the No. 32 player in the 2023 On3 Transfer Portal Ranking.”
Other schools interested in Dennis include Illinois and Indiana, among others.
The Wolverines have two available scholarships for next season after the departures of freshman wing Jett Howard (NBA Draft), sophomore guard Kobe Bufkin (NBA Draft), junior center Hunter Dickinson, sophomore guard Isaiah Barnes and freshman forward Gregg Glenn (transfer portal) and the additions of Nimari Burnett, Caleb Love and Tray Jackson. An additional spot opened after incoming freshman Papa Kante asked out of his letter of intent at Michigan.
To what level Dennis would be a fit in Ann Arbor remains to be seen, having played primarily point guard in his career. Michigan has a pair of point guards on the roster in sophomore Dug McDaniel and graduate Jaelin Llewellyn, who returns after tearing his ACL early last season.
Keep it locked here for more on Dennis in the hours and days to come.
