Texas Tech’s Terrence Shannon Jr. confirmed via his Instagram he was in Michigan last week, and it was for an official visit. His former AAU coach tweeted “congratulations” at him afterward with a Michigan hashtag.

All signs, in fact, pointed to a Michigan pledge, even after Shannon shut down the commitment rumors.

Today, however, Shannon reversed course and committed to Illinois.

On a positive note, Michigan is reported to be in line for a commitment from Princeton guard Jaelin Llewellyn.

From what was rumored, Shannon would have had to take some summer courses to get through Michigan admissions. He apparently indicated he was ready and willing to do what it took to be a Wolverine in the fall.

Instead, something occurred to make him switch course.

Shannon Jr. was a big part of the Red Raiders’ success the past three years. The 6-6, 215-pound Chicago native averaged 10.4 points per game, shooting 45.8 percent from the floor, 38.4 from long range and 78.4 percent from the line. He averaged 2.0 assists to 2.0 turnovers and had seven games this year of 16 or more points.
