Michigan beats Northwestern: Game balls from blowout win
The Michigan Wolverines had no shortage of standout contributors in a 50-6 blowout win over Northwestern on Saturday afternoon, sending an extremely accomplished senior class out of the Big House with a lopsided victory.
It took a total team effort to bust out the season’s best performance, and The Wolverine‘s panel of Chris Balas, Clayton Sayfie and Anthony Broome discussed the key contributors from the Michigan win, including a handful of honorable mentions.
Chris Balas: Senior EDGE Josaiah Stewart
Michigan has gotten everything it could have asked for and more out of Josaiah Stewart this season, right down to naming him a captain halfway through the year. He has been a tone-setter up-front in a group that was already full of them. His 2 sacks on Saturday bring him to 8.5 on the season and he has a legitimate shot at a double-digit sack year. If he gets there next week against Ohio State, you would feel good about Michigan’s ability to hang with its rival, who should be a three-score favorite according to Vegas oddsmakers.
Clayton Sayfie: Graduate running back Kalel Mullings
A clearly frustrated Kalel Mullings spoke to the media last week after a rough few weeks, which included his name getting dragged through the mud by Michigan State fans and his usage falling in the last few games. He made his opportunities count on Saturday, rushing 12 times for 92 yards and 3 touchdowns in his last game at home. He set the tone coming out of the locker room with 4 carries for 73 yards and a touchdown on the opening drive of the first half, and the Wolverines never looked back from there. They will need to lean on him in The Game.

Anthony Broome: Head coach Sherrone Moore
Typically these slots are reserved for player performances, but this was Sherrone Moore’s best week on the job yet at Michigan. Landing the nation’s No. 1 overall player in Bryce Underwood to boost the quarterback position is a lift heading into 2025, and guiding a team to a 50-6 win coming off a bye week and rough season is a lift heading into the Ohio State game next week. The errors that pop up in film study from this one will fall on execution, not necessarily the coaching staff. But for the first time all season, Michigan has a thorough and dominant beatdown to hang its hat on, and it could not have come at a better time.
