Michigan Wolverines senior running back Blake Corum will lead the backfield this season both as a bell-cow and team captain. But depth is always critical in the run game, and he believes that his team has plenty of it.

It starts with his tandem with junior Donovan Edwards, who combines with Corum to form one of the best running back duos Michigan has ever seen. There are no egos involved with either cutting into the other’s workload, and they have instead focused on spending time in the lab together to round out their respective games.

“We were actually at practice a few days ago working on some moves,” Corum said on Thursday. “Don, he has it all, man. He is a complete package and he has every tool in his box that he needs. It’s just refining them. We learn from each other. From him, I learned a lot, like how precise can I be on my routes. He’s a really good route runner.

“We feed off each other, but you know, he’s a heck of a running back. He’s gonna have a great year.”

Corum also weighed in on the rest of his running back peers, naming something he looks about each of the Michigan backs in his position group.

Junior Tavierre Dunlap: “Tavi’s come a long way, he’s shown a lot to me this camp. He’s gotten rid of some bad habits and replaced them with some good ones.”

Graduate Leon Franklin: “Leon Franklin, he’s consistent. He’s a consistent runner. He finds the holes really well.”

Sophomore CJ Stokes: “CJ Stokes, he has that breakaway speed. He can be elusive.”

Freshman Benjamin Hall: “I like him a lot. His attention to detail and his willingness to learn, he wants to learn, always is on time. I have a couple of times here and he’s watching the film. ‘How can I get better? What can I do?’ He’s gonna be a great running back for Michigan. I’m excited to see where he goes down the line.”

Freshman Cole Cabana: “Cole Cabana, he showed a lot. He has great receiving hands. Great asset out of the backfield.”

Junior Henry Donohue: “Hendo. He’s been running downhill.”

Senior Kalel Mullings: “Kalel got in the game a little bit last year. Bigger back that carries with a lot of power, but he carries a lot of speed. Great running back in high school as well. So I’ve been impressed with him.”

Junior Donovan Edwards: “You know what Donovan can do, and he has been doing it during camp.”

Freshman Bryson Kuzdzal: “He’s come a long way. He’s been practicing pretty well these last couple of days. He didn’t get the opportunity to begin the camp but I’m impressed. I like what I see from him. I like what I see.”
