WATCH: Sherrone Moore, Jesse Minter discuss Rose Bowl prep, more
The Michigan Wolverines are currently occupied with Rose Bowl prep for their Jan. 1 showdown with the Alabama Crimson Tide. Offensive coordinator/offensive line coach Sherrone Moore and defensive coordinator Jesse Minter will be instrumental pieces in their efforts, and both spoke to the media on Tuesday afternoon in Ann Arbor.
Alabama has made a habit out of making noise in the College Football Playoff, winning their last six semifinal appearances by an average of 19 points. Minter joked and called the CFP the “Alabama Invitational” on Tuesday afternoon, and Moore said the narratives around the game are what they are because Michigan has yet to succeed on that stage.
“Well, we haven’t won it,” Moore said. “They have, we haven’t. So we have to prepare our tails off to get to that point of what they’ve done. So that’s our goal. That’s our mindset. Our goal is to go win. When we do everything we can to do it.
“I think we just need to go win. We’re not worried about proving anybody. We’re not worried about anybody’s opinions. We’re just ready to go attack and go try to win.

Minter and the Michigan defense will be tasked with slowing down an explosive playmaker at quarterback in Alabama’s Jalen Milroe. He discussed the challenge ahead of them during his Tuesday press conference.

“We get a chance to go against, I think, a really good offense every day to help prepare us for these moments,” Minter said. “Certainly there’s some teams that have had some skill players that we’ve had to match up with and try to defend. I don’t think we’ve seen a quarterback like this. I think the closest thing we see is in practice with some of our guys.
“As a scrambler, Taulia at Maryland was a similar type of guy. But a guy like this involved in the run game, his ability to make off-schedule plays. I think Alex Orji has done a great job [of simulating Milroe as scout team QB] — some of our guys said this yesterday. He’s done a phenomenal job; Davis Warren as well.”
Michigan and Alabama’s matchup in the Rose Bowl is set for Jan. 1 at 5 p.m. ET from Pasadena, California with the Wolverines set as a 1.5-point favorite. The winner will head to Houston on Jan. 8 to play in the College Football Playoff national title game against either Texas or Washington, who play in the Sugar Bowl at 8:45 p.m. on New Year’s Day. Both games will be broadcast via ESPN.
