The Michigan Wolverines are losing cornerback Ja’Den McBurrows to the NCAA transfer, according to On3’s Hayes Fawcett. The defensive back will have two seasons of eligibility remaining at his next destination.

McBurrows appeared in 19 games during his Michigan career, totaling 13 tackles, one interception and two passes defended during his time in Ann Arbor. Much of his career was hampered by injuries, appearing in only four games last season and not playing past Sept. 21 against USC.

His best season came in 2023, where he appeared in 11 games as a depth piece and special-teams contributor, sharing U-M’s Defensive Player of the Week honors for his showing at Michigan State, where he had an interception for five yards in a 49-0 win over the Spartans. It would be a revenge game for McBurrows, who was part of an assault by MSU players in the Michigan Stadium tunnel following a Wolverine victory during the 2022 season. He did not play that season while dealing with a lower-body injury.

McBurrows was a three-star recruit in the 2021 class, ranking No. 606 nationally and the No. 56 cornerback. He was rated as the 79th-best player in the state of Florida.

The NCAA transfer portal window for football opens on April 16 and runs through April 25. U-M is expected to be active in the portal as it looks to round out its roster ahead of the 2025 season, which begins on Aug. 30 against New Mexico at home.

Michigan is currently wrapping up its spring camp, which culminates in the spring game exhibition on Saturday, April 19 in Ann Arbor.
