The Michigan Wolverines made a move to lock down head coach Dusty May last week with the two sides agreeing to terms on a re-worked contract. Stability was never really in question, but the athletic department stepped up and pledged its loyalty to its first-year guru, who has guided the team to a 21-6 start in year one.

TheWolverine.com’s Anthony Broome, Clayton Sayfie and Chris Balas discussed Michigan’s extension of May, the team’s Big Ten title outlook and more on their latest podcast, recorded live this week from Regents Field in Downtown Ann Arbor on Feb. 24.

”It wouldn’t surprise me if his agent made a call to Warde Manuel and said, ‘Hey, my guy is really in demand,” Balas said on the program. “And Indiana has an opening and they’re interested. What are you going to do to keep them?’ He wouldn’t be doing his job if he didn’t do that. I do know that Warde floated some numbers and [they negotiated it] and etails that maybe you’re interested in. I also know that Dusty May wasn’t going to spend a ton of time on this, that this was going to be… let’s get this done so that I can concentrate on my team because this is where he wanted to be.

“He told us last Monday when we talked to him that. ‘I love it here. I love being the coach in Michigan’, and as much respect as he has for Indiana, he’s just getting started here. His family’s here. So we had a pretty good idea last Monday that this is how it was going to end. Didn’t know what happened so soon. We thought maybe it would happen right after the regular season.
