Jadyn Davis impressing at Michigan Rose Bowl practices: 'He has that it factor'
LOS ANGELES — Michigan Wolverines football has several early enrollees participating in Rose Bowl practices. They won’t play in the College Football Playoff, of course, but the time out in Pasadena gives them a chance to get acclimated and ahead of the curve.
Four-star quarterback signee Jadyn Davis has impressed during his time on the practice field, according to both offensive coordinator Sherrone Moore and junior starting signal-caller J.J. McCarthy.
“He’s gonna be a really good player,” Moore said of Davis. “Great arm, great arm talent, great accuracy. Very, very smart and intuitive for a kid that just got here a couple days ago. He meshes well with the team already.
“It’s cool to watch these freshmen — him, the young linemen that are here — and watch them blend in with the older guys. The cool thing about our team is there’s no hazing, there’s no right of passage. You come in and figure out who’s going to help you win.
“He’s done a great job these past couple days, this week, and just excited for him and his future.”

Davis and McCarthy have trained together in the past. Their families have been connected over the years, giving Davis a good first-hand account of Michigan during the recruiting process.
“You can tell, for sure,” Moore said when asked about that connection. “And I think that’s just a quarterback thing, too. All the quarterbacks get along. They’re like brothers. There’s always the competitive edge there, competitive piece because there’s only one quarterback on the field, but they definitely get along very well.

“He meshes well. He kinda has that factor that J.J. has — that ‘it’ factor — where people just kinda gravitate towards him. It’s been really cool to watch him develop as we’ve gone through.”
TheWolverine.com asked McCarthy about what he’s seen from the new Michigan quarterback so far.
“Really good. The thing I’m most impressed with him, though, was just the way he carries himself,” McCarthy explained. “Just being around the guys and being a newcomer, he really just doesn’t say much, but he puts his head down and he works and he’s always asking questions — always trying to grow, always trying to learn. That’s the thing that I respect the most.
“Obviously, he can throw the football very well, but seeing his character, seeing his intangibles makes me really excited.”
A Charlotte (N.C.) Providence Day product, Davis was ranked the No. 95 overall player and seventh-best quarterback in the 2024 class, per the On3 Industry Ranking.
