Michigan Wolverines edge rusher Aymeric Koumba announced on his social media accounts that he will enter the NCAA transfer portal when it opens on Wednesday. He will have three seasons of eligibility remaining.

“I am thankful for all of the teammates, coaches, and memories from The University of Michigan,” Koumba said on X, the app formerly known as Twitter. “With that being said, I will be entering the transfer portal with three years [of] eligibility.”

Koumba is the first football player in Michigan history to sign with the program out of France, joining ahead of the 2023 season. He was a three-star prospect and the No. 77 edge in the 2023 class, per the On3 Industry Ranking. Koumba made two appearances in a Maize and Blue uniform during his career, appearing in two games between the 2023 and 2024 seasons.

His debut came in the season opener against East Carolina in 2023, with the program naming him the Scout Team Defensive Player of the Week. He would not see the field again until 2024, when he played snaps along the defensive line against Arkansas State in Week 3.

Koumba was part of an EDGE group that projects to be deep this season, headlined by Derrick Moore and TJ Guy at the top of the pecking order. Cameron Brandt and Dom Nichols are expected to take on larger roles, too. That makes for a tough upward trajectory at a school known for cranking out pass rushers.

The NCAA transfer portal for football will open its spring window on April 16 and run through April 25. The Wolverines are expected to be active in the portal, addressing final needs before fall camp.

Michigan is currently in its final week of spring football ahead of Saturday’s split-squad scrimmage in Ann Arbor, set for noon. It will not be televised until April 27, airing on a tape delay on Big Ten Network.
