Michigan EDGE Breeon Ishmail enters transfer portal
Michigan Wolverines sophomore edge rusher Breeon Ishmail announced on Friday evening that he has entered the NCAA transfer portal. He will have three seasons of eligibility remaining at his next collegiate stop.
Ishmail (6-3, 260 pounds) is a Hamilton, Ohio native and played in eight games this season, primarily as a special teamer. He did not see game action during the 2023 season. He was a three-star prospect in the 2023 recruiting class for Michigan, coming in as an athlete at 214 pounds and putting in work in the weight room to find a position before ultimately landing at EDGE.
Ishmail was a three-star recruit and the No. 1167 prospect in the 2023 class, per the On3 Industry Ranking. He was also the nation’s 55th-best athlete and the No. 36 player out of the state of Ohio.
The path to playing time at Michigan may have been an uphill battle with the potential returns of Derrick Moore and TJ Guy at EDGE with Cameron Brandt emerging and rumors that Jaishawn Barham may move to a pass rushing role full-time next season. The Wolverines also have a promising trio of EDGE guys that came during the 2024 cycle in Dom Nichols, Lugard Edokpayi and Devon Baxter.

Ishmail is the 14th scholarship player to enter the transfer portal from Michigan so far this offseason, joining quarterbacks Alex Orji and Jayden Denegal, running backs Tavierre Dunlap and Cole Cabana, wide receiver Tyler Morris, offensive linemen Andrew Gentry, Dominick Guidice, Tristan Bounds and Raheem Anderson, linebacker Micah Pollard, cornerback Myles Pollard, punter Tommy Doman and kicker Adam Samaha.
More movement could be on the way either in this portal window or after spring football with a second wave set to hit. Roster limits take effect next year down to 105 players, so there is some jostling to do before next season for the Wolverines.
