Newsstand: Dave Portnoy trolls Urban Meyer during encounter

Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy is one of the biggest Michigan Wolverines superfans out there, and he will let you know it. That includes a chance encounter with former Ohio State Buckeyes head coach Urban Meyer.
Portnoy bumped into the Fox Sports analyst at the Army-Navy game on Saturday and made sure to rub his nose in the fact that Michigan is now 4-0 in its last four meetings over the Buckeyes coming off a 13-10 upset win in Columbus on Nov. 30.
“They need you back. I don’t know if it’d make a difference. Let me ask you this, if they win the national championship, they’re still going to fire him, right? You do” Portnoy told Meyer during a joking exchange.
Meyer appeared to laugh it off and take it in stride, but there’s no doubt it cut deep to a certain extent. The former OSU head coach, who retired from the Buckeyes following the 2018 season, then resigned in disgrace from his job with the Jacksonville Jaguars, recently had to refute reports that he was interested in replacing Ryan Day.

Michigan quote of the day
“I just have a lot on my mind right now. I haven’t really had the opportunity to look back and reflect, but for the most part, I’ve always been grateful for all the support that the Michigan fans have given me. [Analyst] Fred Jackson, [former running backs coach from 2021-23] Mike Hart, [director of football administration and student services] Claiborne Green, for always being there for me and just keeping it real for me at all times. I’ve always had so much support within the Michigan facility.
“This place will always have a special place in my heart, and I will always remember the cheers within The Big House.”
