Newsstand: In memory of our fallen heroes
Michigan Wolverines fans and others across the country celebrate Memorial Day on Monday, which for many folks is the unofficial start of summer and a much-needed day off, capping off a weekend of rest and relaxation.
For a moment, let us remember what this day is really about.
While the day serves as a wonderful excuse to fire up the grill, which we will all be partaking in, Memorial Day is to honor and pay tribute to those we have lost making the ultimate sacrifice for our country. Today, we remember the brave men and women who have risked and ultimately lost their lives in the protection of things that we often take for granted.
We get to clock in for work every day and discuss Michigan, and we get to connect with readers and fans every day because of the lengths our armed forces go to protect us.
If you have the time today, take a moment to reflect on the sacrifices made by those who came before us and those who tragically lost their lives too soon. If you can visit a memorial, attend a ceremony, or at least connect and discuss some of our heroes, it might be a great way to spend the day off.

Michigan quote of the day
“I’m looking forward to spending time with Coach Moore, Coach Newsome and the whole staff. I’m just excited to get back up there since I haven’t been up there since the Ohio State game. I’m looking forward to my whole family getting a look at it. I just want to see how everything is with the new staff. I like it up there a lot, so I want to get the same vibe.”
