Wolverine TV: Q&A with 2025 Top 100 QB and Michigan target Ryan Montgomery
The Wolverine caught up with 2025 Findlay (Ohio) High quarterback and key Michigan target Ryan Montgomery last week at his school, where co-defensive coordinator and area recruiter Steve Clinkscale made an appearance during the January contact period. Clinkscale’s arrival came off the Wolverines letting go former quarterbacks coach Matt Weiss.
The changing of positional coaches at Michigan hasn’t deterred how the coaching staff is prioritizing Montgomery and his family. All of whom have championed the relationships they’ve garnered with head coach Jim Harbaugh, offensive coordinator Sherrone Moore, and now with Clinkscale. That’s going back to when Ohio State signee Luke Montgomery was still considering Michigan before committing.
Michigan was the first Power 5 school to offer the youngest Montgomery, who most recently attended Ann Arbor twice over the fall for games against Michigan State and Penn State. Montgomery is scheduling spring trips following the February dead period with a return to Michigan being one of the planned spots.
“I would say wanting to take a deeper dive into the X’s and O’s of the offense,” Montgomery told The Wolverine about his next Michigan visit. “Just seeing how they would think I’d fit in the offense and how I would think I’d fit in the offense. Just learning more about the school in general and keep building on the relationships with everyone there.”

Editor’s Note: This interview occurred before the elevation of Kirk Campbell as the replacement of Weiss.
At 6-foot-3 and 210 pounds, Montgomery is ranked as the No. 3 quarterback nationally, No. 1 sophomore in the state of Ohio, and No. 43 overall player in the country, per the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
Montgomery has an On3 NIL Valuation of $69K with 7.4K combined followers on Twitter and Instagram. The On3 NIL Valuation is an index that looks to set the standard market value for both high school and college-level athletes. The NIL valuation does not act as a tracker of the value of NIL deals an athlete has completed to date. It rather signifies an athlete’s value at a certain moment in time.
Michigan, who’s only one-of-three Big Ten schools to possess a 2025 commit next to Penn State and Ohio State, is also one-of-eleven Power 5 programs to hold at least one rising sophomore verbal pledge as well in Hollywood (Fla.) Chaminade-Madonna Top 100 cornerback Chris Ewald Jr.
