Michigan football is one of the most talent-rich teams in the country heading into the 2023 season, and the Senior Bowl Watchlist released ahead of the new year further hammers that home. The event, helmed by Michigan alum and former NFL front office executive Jim Nagy, has 18 names on its watch list heading into the season.

Tight end AJ Barner, offensive linemen Karsen Barnhart, LaDarius Henderson, Myles Hinton, Trente Jones, Trevor Keegan, Drake Nugent and Myles Hinton, linebacker Michael Barrett, running back Blake Corum, EDGEs Jaylen Harrell and Braiden McGregor, defensive tackle Kris Jenkins, wide receivers Cornelius Johnson and Roman Wilson, and defensive backs Makari Paige, Mike Sainristil and Josh Wallace all made the cut. It is no guarantee all are extended invites, but enter the season firmly on the event’s radar.

The Senior Bowl takes place in January in Mobile, Alabama as a showcase for upperclassmen NFL Draft hopefuls. In order to be eligible, players must be four years removed from their high school class.

Nagy spoke to On3’s Andy Staples recently and said breaking the draft record of 15 players is realistic for Michigan, as crazy as it might seem.

“It’s like beating the 100 meters [sprint] by a second, having five more than the record drafted,” Nagy told Staples. “It does sound crazy, but when you look at it they have seven offensive linemen with PFAs (priority free agent) grades or better. Most of those are draftable grades.”

Head coach Jim Harbaugh has stated a few times this offseason that he thinks his team could break the NFL Draft pick record set by Georgia in 2022. The Bulldogs had 15 players selected that cycle, so that could be lofty.

But not completely out of the question.

“I don’t know, maybe Jim is right,” Nagy said. “We’ll see, but there’s a heck of a lot of talent on that football team.”
