Michigan football’s schedule was already set, but now we have a smattering of game times. The Wolverines will open the 2022 season on Sept. 3 vs. Colorado State at noon on ABC.

Michigan’s Week 2 opponent, the Hawaii Warriors, will visit the Big House in primetime on Sept. 10. Kickoff is at 8 p.m. ET and will be televised via Big Ten Network. The Wolverines round out the non-conference schedule with a visit from UConn in Week 3 at noon on Sept. 17, another ABC telecast.

Other times were also included in the initial drop. Michigan’s homecoming game against Maryland on Sept. 24 has been set for a noon start and will be on either FOX or Fox Sports 1. The team’s trip to Indiana on Oct. 8 will be a 12 p.m. kick with the television network to be decided.

Michigan’s showdown with Ohio State in Columbus on Nov. 26 was already set and known. The hated rivals will meet at 12 p.m. on FOX.

Why U-M feels destined for the over 9.5 wins

Big Ten over/under win totals came in recently from the folks over at Vegas Insider. The early odds have U-M football’s number set at 9.5 ahead of the 2022 season. This, of course, comes off a year where Michigan went 12-2, won the Big Ten title and made the program’s first-ever College Football Playoff.

At first glance, the number seems apt for Michigan. The Wolverines lose 25 sacks off of the defense between Heisman Trophy finalist Aidan Hutchinson and David Ojabo. There are plenty of other questions on defense, especially in the transition from Mike Macdonald to Jesse Minter.

Michigan’s offense likely has to carry more of the load in 2022, meaning the quarterback will carry a heavier burden. Cade McNamara got Michigan where it wanted to go in 2021, but the Wolverines need more. Does that mean J.J. McCarthy is ready to be unleashed? Time will tell.
