Michigan lands commitment from 2024 Ohio DL Ted Hammond
Once again, Michigan pulled another key target out of the state of Ohio.
Three days after hosting its first of two Junior Day events in the month of January, the Wolverines landed a verbal commitment from 2024 Cincinnati (Ohio) St. Xavier three-star defensive lineman Ted Hammond on Wednesday.
Hammond announced his decision on social media following the weekend visit to Ann Arbor in which he was joined by now future Michigan teammate in On300 interior offensive lineman commit Luke Hamilton, as well as two other Ohio natives in three-star offensive tackle Ben Roebuck and On300 EDGE Brian Robinson.
Defensive line coach Mike Elston and area recruiter Steve Clinkscale would offer Hammond during the January contact period less than two weeks ago, resulting in the rising junior scheduled his return trip back to campus soon after. Hammond made multiple visits to Michigan last year, including for the Nebraska game in mid-November and an offseason tour of the facilities back in March.
The Wolverines beat out other notable schools who delivered scholarships to Hammond such as Oklahoma, Washington, Louisville, Pitt, Vanderbilt, Iowa, Cincinnati, Kentucky, Northwestern, Kansas, Rutgers, Cal, Purdue, and West Virginia.
At 6-foot-5 and 270 pounds, Hammond ranks as the No. 14 overall prospect in the state of Ohio, No. 31 defensive lineman nationally, and No. 365 player in the country, according to the On3 Consensus. Michigan has now landed commitments from Cincinnati athletes in back-to-back cycles following the signings of cornerback Cameron Calhoun and linebacker Breeon Ishmail in 2023.

Michigan remains in the mix for a number of other 2024 Cincinnati targets, including Top 100 running back Jordan Marshall, Top 100 EDGE Elias Rudolph, and defensive backs Tayshawn Banks and Jay’Quan Bostic. Hammond’s teammate at St. Xavier, 2025 offensive lineman Tucker Kattus, who’s a legacy, also reported an offer from Michigan the same day.
Hammond is the fifth commit in Michigan’s 2024 recruiting class, which also features Hamilton, On300 Bellevue (Wash.) High tight end Hogan Hansen, On300 Nashville (Tenn.) Ensworth linebacker Mason Curtis and rising Wallingfoord (Conn.) Choate Rosemary Hall three-star defensive lineman Manuel Beigel, who is originally from Germany.
Hammond has an On3 NIL Valuation of $9.5K with 3.7K combined followers across Twitter and Instagram. The On3 NIL Valuation is an index that looks to set the standard market value for both high school and college-level athletes. The NIL valuation does not act as a tracker of the value of NIL deals an athlete has completed to date. It rather signifies an athlete’s value at a certain moment in time.
