Jim Harbaugh weighs in on Michigan’s Week 1 performance

Head coach Jim Harbaugh spoke to the media on Monday after missing Saturday’s game serving the first week of a three-game suspension and loved Michigan’s response without him on the field.

“I really loved what I saw out of our team,” Harbaugh said. “Colonel [Jim] Minick, who you know I’m lifelong friends with, he sent me a message, and he said that, ‘There’s a military saying that the true sign of leadership is what your unit does when you’re not there.’ For us, I thought it was really great. Our captains, our senior leadership, our coaches all were phenomenal. When we started fall camp, I told the team that Moses had 70 leaders — ‘how many do you think we need? More. We need a lot more.’ And I think we have that, and it’s building. People talk about turning a negative into a positive — I just love the way our team is doing that, and it’s a unique opportunity to build leadership, build leaders, because they have a chance to make those incredible leadership bonds. “

What’s next for U-M?

The Wolverines are back in action next week against UNLV at Michigan Stadium. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. ET on CBS.
