Live updates: Michigan vs. Penn State

FINAL: Michigan 24, Penn State 15

1:59, 4Q – PSU climbed a little closer late with a 75-yard, 8-play drive that ended in a touchdown from Drew Allar to TE Theo Johnson. They went for two and failed, narrowing the deficit to 24-15 with 1:59 to go.

4:21, 4Q – On the first play of the drive, Blake Corum found the endzone on a 30-yard touchdown to extend the Michigan lead to 24-9 after the extra point.

4:53, 4Q – After five punts to start the quarter between both teams, Michigan punted back to Penn State looking to make this a game. The Nittany Lions turned the ball over on downs and gave way back to Michigan at the PSU 30-yard line.

End of third quarter: Michigan 17, Penn State 9

0:12, 3Q – Penn State had a tough decision to make near midfield on a 4th and 2, but elected to punt back to Michigan with 12 seconds left in the quarter with U-M taking over at its own 3-yard line.

3:36, 3Q – Michigan took advantage of the turnover to add to its lead, driving 45 yards in 13 plays and getting a field goal from Turner from 22 yards out. Michigan 17, Penn State 9

11:40, 3Q – On PSU’s first drive of the half, Rayshaun Benny forced a fumble that was recovered by safety Makari Paige at midfield, giving the U-M offense the ball early on in the quarter.

15:00, 3Q – Penn State starts the half on offense after deferring the opening kickoff.

HALFTIME: Michigan 14, Penn State 9

0:29, 2Q – Penn State mounted a big response, going 75 yards in 5:38 and picking up a conversion on 4th down to get on the board with its first touchdown of the game, an 11-yard run from QB Drew Allar. Penn State went for two and failed, bring the score to 14-9.

6:07, 2Q – Michigan closed out a 78-yard, six-play drive with a Donovan Edwards touchdown from 22 yards out. The Wolverines jumped ahead 14-3 after the extra point.

9:44, 2Q – U-M came out on its next series and forced another three-and-out on defense, forcing a quick punt that was returned to the Michigan 22-yard line.

11:56, 2Q – The Wolverines answered with their first score of the game on a three-yard Blake Corum run to cap off a nine-play, 75-yard drive. Michigan took its first lead of the day after James Turner’s extra point. Michigan 7, Penn State 3

0:00, 1Q – The quarter came to an end with Michigan driving on offense thanks to a 13-yard scramble from McCarthy on first down.

2:17, 1Q – PSU got its offense going on the next drive, going 13 plays for 66 yards to put its first score of the game on the board, a 20-yard field goal from Alex Felkins. PSU 3, Michigan 0

8:41, 1Q – The U-M offense matched Penn State on its next drive with a three-and-out of its own. Tommy Doman punted the Nittany Lions down to their own 31-yard line.

10:23, 1Q – The Michigan defense got off the field quickly on the next series, forcing its first three-and-out of the game. Penn State punted down to the 30-yard line, where it was fair caught by the Wolverines.

11:10, 1Q – Michigan went 9 yards in five plays to start the game on a drive that ended in a J.J. McCarthy sack on third and 8. U-M would punt down to the 26-yard line.

15:00, 1Q – Penn State won the coin toss and deferred, giving Michigan the ball to start the contest on offense.
