Michigan associate head coach Biff Poggi is working two jobs. He accepted the Charlotte head coaching gig in November but has stayed on with the Wolverines and will finish out the 2022 season under head man Jim Harbaugh.

“I’m sleeping so (much) less,” Poggi told On3. “I hope that my 62-year-old self can handle it. But I’m having a lot of fun.”

It’s a challenge to juggle both, but it was important for Poggi to finish what he started this year.

“My thing is, if Jim were to ask me to leave, I would have done whatever he wished,” Poggi said. “But he’s been great. We talk every day. He’s also helping me with Charlotte. He’s asking me about coaches, what are you doing with this or that, have you thought of this guy, or that guy, all these kinds of things. He’s been incredibly helpful.”

He’s doing his responsibilities for each school at the offices inside Schembechler Hall, Michigan’s team facility.

“While our kids are in classes here is green time,” Poggi said. “And then once they start getting in the building, it’s blue time. The nights are blue time with talking to kids on the phone and texting with kids that are here. Going out to eat or a movie or whatever, just shooting the breeze with them. After that, it’s green time at night – calling recruits, working on coaches, calling donors and alumni and things like that.”

Michigan redshirt freshman forward Will Tschetter played just four minutes and did not record any stats in the Wolverines’ 80-76 loss to the North Carolina Tar Heels Wednesday night. However, former U-M player Ant Wright broke down how he made a nice impact in his limited opportunity.

Michigan landed four three-star recruits from Ohio in its 2023 class — cornerback Cameron Calhoun, linebacker Jason Hewlett, defensive back D’Juan Waller Jr. and EDGE Breeon Ishmail — after having only one player from The Buckeye State in the last three cycles combined (safety Rod Moore, 2021).

Michigan’s class settled in at No. 20 in the On3 Consensus Team Rankings.

Quote Of The Day

“He gets on you when he needs to, but he still shows you some love when he needs to, too. It’s a love-hate relationship all the time, but it’s a good relationship. I think when he says [that the defensive backs give of his vibe], he’s trying to say, on the field we bring a physicality to us on defense.”
