Michigan football countdown to kickoff: 13 days until 2022 season
There’s much anticipation heading into the Michigan Wolverines football season, and TheWolverine.com is counting down the days until the Sept. 3 opener against Colorado State. We’ll discuss current Michigan events, the upcoming season and/or take a look at a significant number that correlates with how many days remain until kickoff, whether it be a player’s jersey number, a year, a date, a score, etc.
Michigan football is inside two weeks to go before kicking off its 2022 season. With 13 days left the pass on the calendar, today we remember kicker Jake Moody‘s 2021 season and how critical he was in the Big Ten title run.
Kickers are often overlooked as key pieces of the team until a team does not have one. Moody was cool and clutch in every sense of the word last season. He appeared in all 14 games last season kicking field goals and extra points and handling kickoffs. Moody helped rack up 125 points, which was the second-most in a single season in Michigan history.
Moody hit on 23 of his 25 field goal attempts last season and cashed in on all 56 of his extra points. All of this helped lead to Consensus All-American status and the Lou Groza Award as the nation’s top kicker. He also earned the Big Ten Kicker of the Year award – Michigan’s first – and first-team all-conference honors.
Moody also hit on his career-long field goal attempt of 52 yards in a Week 2 win over Washington and hit a 39-yard game-winner during an Oct. 9 victory at Nebraska.

Michigan was expected to hand his job off to sophomore Tommy Doman this season before Moody decided to return for a fifth and final season. Punter Brad Robbins returned for a sixth year, giving Michigan its kicking corps back for the 2022 campaign. Both will look to keep their momentum going on the field to help keep the Wolverines as one of the top special teams units in the nation.
