There’s much anticipation heading into the Michigan Wolverines football season, and TheWolverine.com is counting down the days until the Sept. 3 opener against Colorado State. We’ll discuss current Michigan events, the upcoming season and/or take a look at a significant number that correlates with how many days remain until kickoff, whether it be a player’s jersey number, a year, a date, a score, etc.

Michigan football finds itself 29 days away from the start of the 2022 season, bringing us to another talented past figure. Today’s shoutout goes to former cornerback Leon Hall.

The Oceanside, California native played wideout and defensive back at Vista High School and was a U.S. Army Bowl participant. He committed to Michigan without an official visit to Ann Arbor.

Hall played in 50 career games at Michigan, racking up 180 total tackles (6.5 tackles for loss), three sacks, 12 interceptions (two for touchdowns), 43 passes defended, one forced fumble and five recoveries. Hall won a pair of Big Ten titles in 2003-04 and was part of an 11-2 Michigan team during his final season in 2006.

Hall’s play at Michigan garnered plenty of acclaim, grabbing Consensus All-American and First-team All-Big Ten honors in 2006. He was able to parlay it into an NFL payday, becoming the No. 18 overall pick in the 2007 NFL Draft of the Cincinnati Bengals.

Hall spent nine seasons in Cincinnati and was a PFWA All-Rookie Team member in 2007, then earning second-team All-Pro honors in 2009. The Michigan alum departed the Bengals after the 2015 season and spent the next three years with three different teams: the New York Giants, San Francisco 49ers and Oakland Raiders. His final season came in 2018, ending a career with 542 total tackles, 117 defended passes, 27 interceptions, six forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and three defensive touchdowns.
