Michigan football countdown to kickoff: 32 days until 2022 season
There’s much anticipation heading into the Michigan Wolverines football season, and TheWolverine.com is counting down the days until the Sept. 3 opener against Colorado State. We’ll discuss current Michigan events, the upcoming season and/or take a look at a significant number that correlates with how many days remain until kickoff, whether it be a player’s jersey number, a year, a date, a score, etc.
‘A-Train’ — No. 32, Anthony Thomas, U-M’s running back from 1997-2000 — is the subject of today’s piece with 32 days until Michigan begins the 2022 season.
Thomas did it all for Michigan as a senior, but he contributed all four of his years in Ann Arbor. He did so as both a runner and pass-catcher, rushing for 529 or more yards and catching 13-plus passes each year.
During Michigan’s national championship-winning season in 1997, Thomas rushed 130 times for 529 yards and five touchdowns, while catching 21 passes for 205 yards. He racked up 761 rushing yards and 12 scores the next year, before punching in 16 TDs each of his final two campaigns and totaling 1,257 yards and 1,551 yards (second in program history) as a junior and senior, respectively. In that final year, he had eight 100-plus yard rushing games.
Thomas left Michigan as the school’s all-time leader in rushing yards with 4,472. He was passed by Mike Hart (5,040) and Denard Robinson (4,495) after leaving the Wolverines.
