Michigan freshman defensive back Will Johnson is the cover boy for The Wolverine Magazine’s 2022 Recruiting Issue, which Wolverine fans can preorder until Feb. 14. Fans can continue ordering the magazine after that date, but it may take longer to ship. Head to TheWolverineOnDemand.com or you can buy one at any M Den location.

An early enrollee, Johnson promoted the Michigan recruiting magazine and has been a part of other Name, Image and Likeness deals since becoming a college athlete at the beginning of the year.

“NIL has been good,” the five-star Michigan freshman told TheWolverine.com. “I have a good support system to help me out. I have a lawyer and sports marketing guy that helps me with NIL. He looks over all my contracts and deals. Him and my family help me focus on what I have to focus on. They handle all of that. I do everything I need to do it. It’s pretty easy. Obviously, it’s great for me. I get to make money now and do all that, so I’m happy about it.”

Former Michigan football radio play-by-play man and longtime Detroit radio personality Frank Beckmann is in hospice care, his wife told The Detroit News. According to the report, the 72-year-old is not expected to make it through the weekend. He is suffering with vascular dementia, a rare and untreatable brain disease.

Beckmann was inducted into the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame in 2008 and has been inducted into the Michigan Associations of Broadcasters Hall of Fame.

Michigan quarterback Cade McNamara hit the ceremonial first serve to open U-M tennis’ match against defending Big Ten champion Illinois. The Wolverines won the match, 4-1, snapping a six-match losing streak against the Illini. The 20th-ranked Michigan Wolverines have a matchup with No. 5 Notre Dame Thursday, Feb. 24.

Quote Of The Day

“I had mixed feelings about it before the game because if you storm the court, it means you aren’t expected to win. We felt like we had a really good shot out there to win the game. Felt like a couple of adjustments on defense that we didn’t do in the first game led to them getting away from us. Coming into this game, we all felt really confident in ourselves and in the game plan. But shoot, if they are going to storm the court I may as well in get in there too.”
