Michigan football DT George Rooks enters transfer portal
Michigan football sophomore defensive tackle George Rooks entered the transfer portal on Monday, a source told TheWolverine.com. He appeared in 6 games this season for the Wolverines along the team’s front in a depth role.
Rooks played 3 games last season on special teams and on the defensive line, but maintained his redshirt by not entering a 4th game. He will have 3 seasons of eligibility remaining at his next destination.
Rooks attended St. Peter’s Prep HS and posted 160 tackles (40 tackles for loss) over his last 3 years in high school. His play at that level earned him a 4-star ranking in the 2021 recruiting class, per the On3 Consensus. He was the No. 288 player in the nation and the 29th-rated defensive lineman.

Michigan’s depth at the position is substantial with Kris Jenkins, Rayshaun Benny, Mason Graham and Kenneth Grant expected to fill the core roles next season. Rooks would have mixed in and competed for a role in 2023, but elected to go elsewhere.
Rooks is the 4th player to enter the transfer portal this season from the Wolverines, joining quarterback Cade McNamara, tight end Erick All and tight end Louis Hansen. Michigan has made one addition via the portal in the form of former Arizona State offensive lineman LaDarius Henderson, who is expected to compete at tackle for the Wolverines.
