One year after breaking the record with 18 athletes at the NFL Draft Scouting Combine, Michigan Wolverines football has eight standouts who have been invited to the event, which will be held Feb. 24 through March 3 in Indianapolis.

The Michigan players who received invites are running back Donovan Edwards, running back Kalel Mullings, tight end Colston Loveland, offensive tackle Myles Hinton, defensive tackle Mason Graham, defensive tackle Kenneth Grant, EDGE Josaiah Stewart and cornerback Will Johnson.

Last year, Michigan saw 13 of its former players get drafted, a program record. It also set a program mark with seven top-100 picks. The Wolverines had 66 selections in nine years under former head coach Jim Harbaugh, and this will be the first draft class sent to the NFL under current head man Sherrone Moore.

Michigan has had eight or more NFL Draft picks in nine different drafts, including four in the last five years: 2024, 2023, 2021, 2020, 2017, 1975, 1974, 1972 and 1948.

It’s important to note that there are more NFL Scouting Combine invites (329) than draft picks this April (257), so not all of the invitees will be selected.

Michigan has a mixture of juniors who enrolled early and fourth- and fifth-year seniors who are out of eligibility. Loveland, Graham, Grant and Johnson are four juniors who are widely regarded as potential first-round NFL Draft picks.

In fact, ESPN.com analyst Mel Kiper Jr. recently listed three of them in his top 25 overall prospects list — Graham (No. 3), Johnson (No. 9) and Loveland (No. 13). Grant, meanwhile, checked in as the third-best defensive tackle on the board.

Here’s what Kiper said about Graham: “I love Graham’s technique. His leverage gives him an advantage at the point of attack, and interior offensive linemen struggle with his power and quickness. Graham has strong and active hands, and he has proved effective against the run and pass from inside. He had two sacks against Minnesota in September but managed just 1.5 the rest of the season.”

Kiper on Johnson: Johnson is so instinctive in coverage, and his ability to read quarterbacks jumps out when you watch him. He has great quickness in his transition, allowing him to make plays on the ball. Johnson returned both of his interceptions this season for touchdowns, and you can see those instincts throughout his first pick-six in Michigan’s opener against Fresno State — when he jumped a screen and took the ball 86 yards to the house. He has nine career picks. Johnson missed the team’s last six games with a toe injury.

Kiper on Loveland: “If you are looking for a tight end who can consistently stretch the deep middle part of the field, Loveland is your guy. He averaged 8.3 air yards per target over three college seasons. The QB play was subpar for Michigan, which limited Loveland. But he is a difficult matchup for defenses, and he averaged nearly nine targets per game.”
