The Michigan Wolverines are into their first full week of fall camp in the leadup to the 2024 season, the sign-stealing storyline re-appeared in the last week or so with the NCAA’s draft notice of allegations being floated around.

There is a lot of misinformation out there at the moment, so TheWolverine.com’s trio of Anthony Broome, Chris Balas and Clayton Sayfie took to the airwaves on Monday night to translate what the latest developments mean in the grand scheme of things.

One of the biggest plot threads is the allegation head coach Sherrone Moore deleted text messages from Connor Stalions, the ringleader of the sign-stealing operation shortly after finding out of the accusations. The NCAA eventually obtained what was contained in the messages, which reportedly included no incriminating evidence.

“The 52 text messages thing, those are text messages and it’s going to come out that they had nothing to do with sign stealing,” Balas said of the Michigan head coach. “And if it were me… people can make excuses and everything else, and I don’t think this is an excuse, but if it were me, and I saw that Connor Stallions was all of a sudden under the NCAA microscope and I’m thinking this guy’s a pariah now and I have to distance myself from him, even if I don’t have damning texts on there, I think your first inclination was, ‘I’ve got to disassociate myself from this guy.’ I think that’s exactly how Sherrone Moore reacted. I don’t think he was trying to hide anything. And I think it’s pretty clear because if it weren’t clear, we would know about it already.

“I think that the NCAA knows what’s in those text messages. I think it’s a little bit of sensationalism on their part to throw things out there and really operate in bad faith as they really have been this whole time. Look at Tom Mars’ statement on Monday. He’s Jim Harbaugh’s lawyer and what they wanted him to go through to separate his personal texts and emails from his work emails Mars said would have cost him $38,000 just to do that. He said he was not going to ask him to do that.
