Newsstand: David Long Jr. after Super Bowl win — 'thank you, God'
Tweets Of The Day
Former Michigan Wolverines football cornerback David Long Jr. and his Los Angeles Rams won Super Bowl 56 over the Cincinnati Bengals Sunday evening, 23-20. The Rams were down by four points but put together a 16-play, 80-yard drive to win the game. Wide receiver Cooper Kupp, who scored two touchdowns, was the game’s MVP.
In the win, Long posted four tackles, three of which were solo. Fellow former Michigan cornerback Blake Countess — who finished his collegiate career at Auburn — was on the Rams practice squad. Former Michigan running back Chris Evans, a reserve on the Cincinnati Bengals, hauled in a key third-down reception for three yards to move the chains in the fourth quarter. He was also the Bengals’ kick returner but did not get any opportunities to bring a kick back.
After the win, Long took to Twitter to thank God.
“World champs, humbled and honored,” he tweeted. “Thank you, God.”
Michigan basketball fifth-year senior guard Eli Brooks became the 56th Wolverine to reach 1,000 career points Saturday night in a loss to Ohio State. He scored 17 points. Just one game earlier, he played in his 147th career game, which stands as the most in Michigan history. He broke former teammates Zavier Simpson and Jon Teske‘s record.
Brooks has had some inconsistent stretches during his fifth season at Michigan, but his offense has come alive as of late, nailing 15 of his last 30 three-point attempts. He’s scored 16 or more points in three of the last four outings, went off for 20 points in a narrow victory over Nebraska Feb. 1 and hit all four of his triple tries in a Feb. 10 win over Purdue, totaling 18 points.
