The Wolverine caught up with 2025 Belleville (Mich.) High quarterback Bryce Underwood down in South Florida last weekend for the Battle Miami 7v7 Tournament, where the rising sophomore competed for Detroit-based SoundMind SoundBody, who was the lone nationally-known training facility to represent the state of Michigan at the event.

Sitting as one of the few top quarterbacks on Michigan’s board next cycle, Underwood, who resides less than a 30-minute drive from Ann Arbor, is coming off back-to-back MHSAA Division I state championships. Underwood was also recently honored as the 2022 MaxPreps National Sophomore Player of the Year.

“I’ve been feeling better. Physically, I’ve continued to get bigger, faster, and stronger,” Underwood said last weekend. “I feel way stronger than where I was this time last year. I’m excited to keep preparing for the upcoming football season.”

Underwood made two unofficial visits to Michigan during the fall as he was in attendance for the games against Maryland and Michigan State. This week, Underwood would pick up four offers from the SEC in Texas A&M, Georgia, Ole Miss, and Arkansas. He’s scheduled to visit Penn State this upcoming weekend with LSU making an in-school visit during the January contact period.

“It’s still the same (amount of interest) with Michigan,” Underwood said. “I love the atmosphere and I love the coaching staff there. We’ll keep it going with them in the back of my mind.”

At 6-foot-3 and 205 pounds, Underwood is ranked as the No. 1 quarterback nationally and No. 4 overall player in the country, per the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is also the No. 1 prospect in the state of Michigan.

Underwood has an On3 NIL Valuation of $139K with 25K combined followers on Twitter and Instagram. The On3 NIL Valuation is an index that looks to set the standard market value for both high school and college-level athletes. The NIL valuation does not act as a tracker of the value of NIL deals an athlete has completed to date. It rather signifies an athlete’s value at a certain moment in time.

Michigan, who’s only one-of-two Big Ten schools to possess a 2025 commit next to Ohio State, is also one-of-ten Power 5 programs to hold at least one rising sophomore verbal pledge as well in Hollywood (Fla.) Chaminade-Madonna cornerback Chris Ewald Jr.
