Michigan Wolverines football returned to Ann Arbor to a thunderous reaction after beating Penn State 24-15 in Happy Valley on Saturday afternoon. Head coach Jim Harbaugh was unable to coach while serving the first of a three-game suspension imposed by the Big Ten over the alleged illegal scouting operation, but was still able to grab a win under acting head coach Sherrone Moore.

The team returned to campus on Thursday night and made an appearance at the Michigan hockey game, where the crowd went wild for the team and chanted “Free Jim Harbaugh” during the ovation.

Michigan learned Friday afternoon as it got off the plane to Happy Valley that the Big Ten had suspended Harbaugh for the rest of the regular season. U-M filed an injunction in hopes to have Harbaugh back on the field on Saturday afternoon, but the order did not go through, which sidelined Harbaugh for the game despite making the trip. A hearing is set for Friday that could determine if Harbaugh can return to the field on Saturday at Maryland and finish the regular season.

Michigan’s game at Maryland has been set for a 12 p.m. ET kickoff on FOX with the Wolverines set as 20.5-point favorites, per the FanDuel Sportsbook.

Michigan quote of the day

Yeah, I think it was all built up. Was thinking about our players and how hard they’ve worked through all thus craziness and all the situations that’s been going on. How hard they have worked and the realization of that coming to fruition and watching it come to fruition against a great football team. That football team is really good. Defensively, offensively, special teams. In all three phases. They’re as elite as they come. For us to come in this environment and win was huge. Just thinking about coach, man, love that man with all my heart. Such a great person, great human, great coach. Just wanted to do it for him.
