Michigan football earned a 29-7 win over the Indiana Hoosiers on Saturday night in Ann Arbor. It was rarely flashy, but it wound up being a complete team win to move past a tough loss last week.

TheWolverine.com staff handed out its game balls after the contest, which sent Michigan to 8-1 on the season.

Chris Balas: RB Hassan Haskins

Give one to Haskins, who continues to be one of the more underrated offensive players in the Big Ten. He’s an under-appreciated athlete who simply moves the chains, gets the extra yard and will break the occasional big one as he did on the outside zone for 62 yards Saturday. That one set up a key second-quarter touchdown when the game was still in doubt on a drive after which he turned a short pass into a 20-yard gain to set up the first touchdown.

Folks won’t remember his crushing shot to the ribs in pass protection, but that will be a highlight in Michigan film sessions this week, guaranteed.

No. 25 stayed in a bit too long for our liking, given he was the only one of the top three backs left standing at the end, but he was Michigan’s MVP Saturday.

Clayton Sayfie: TE Luke Schoonmaker

The tight ends continue to trend upwards.

Without sophomore Erick All, the production at the position saw no drop off. Schoonmaker notched his first touchdown since 2019 at Illinois, extending the Michigan lead to 17-7 in the second quarter with a 12-yard score, then got on the board from eight yards out to put the icing on the cake early in the fourth stanza. He also added a one-yard catch.

‘Schoony’ has paid his dues, contributing to the run blocking in a big way this season, and it was nice to see him rewarded. It was also solid to see him make plays in the red zone, an area in which the Wolverines have struggled.

Anthony Broome: OLBs David Ojabo and Aidan Hutchinson

It gets harder each week to separate these two, given how well they are playing in sync. Saturday was another disruptive showing for Michigan football’s pass-rush duo. Hutchinson had five total tackles and four quarterback hits, while Ojabo racked up a sack and forced fumble on the evening.

Slowing down one of them could be an achievable goal for an offense, but doing so to both seems out of the question at this point. Michigan will need its big-time players down the stretch, and these two deliver each week. Ojabo is beginning to warrant longer looks from NFL scouts that see him in person this season.

Michigan honorable mentions

WR Cornelius Johnson: The third-year wideout had five catches on nine targets for 108 yards on Saturday.

K Jake Moody: Moody was perfect on all three of his field-goal attempts with a pair of 34-yard strikes and a 32-yarder.

LBs Josh Ross and Junior Colson: Michigan’s starting linebacker duo combined for 15 tackles and two quarterback hits.
