Wolverine TV podcast: Reacting to Josh Gattis' departure, discussing potential replacements
TheWolverine.com’s Chris Balas, Anthony Broome and Clayton Sayfie fired up a Sunday afternoon podcast to discuss Josh Gattis leaving Michigan to become the offensive coordinator at Miami, who his replacement could be and the latest on the defensive coordinator search.
On the way out at Michigan, according to multiple reports, Gattis texted his players to say goodbye, but also revealed that he felt slighted by the university’s administration and the lack of support he feels he had.
““Unfortunately the past few weeks has told a different story to me about the very little appreciation I have here from [Michigan] administration,” Gattis said in the message, according to ESPN.com’s Tom VanHaaren. In life I would never advise anyone to be where they are not wanted…”
We discussed Gattis’ “unusual text,” and provided some intel on what exactly was the source of his frustration.
“It confirmed what we’ve been reporting all week — that Josh Gattis was not next in line for the head-coaching job at Michigan,” Balas said. “He didn’t get the jobs at Virginia and Duke, where he interviewed, but to assume that you’re going to get the Michigan job when you didn’t get the Virginia job or the Duke job, which, on the pecking order, maybe a little bit lower, especially coming off a Big Ten championship season and a playoff appearance.

“And I think he knew it, though, and that’s what we said all week — that he understood that over the last several weeks that it was not his job and he would not have been the first one in the pecking order even on the internal staff. That it would be Mike Hart or Sherrone Moore, and that it was not going to be Josh Gattis.
“And people can speculate and give their reasons why — whatever — whether it’s baggage or there was something in the vetting process that made them believe that Mike Hart and Sherrone Moore were better options.”
