Michigan Wolverines football has 14 incoming transfers for the 2025 season, many of whom are on campus as early enrollees, partaking in the winter training cycle and spring practices. Three of the newcomers have revealed their jersey numbers on social media: defensive tackle Tré Williams (Clemson), safety TJ Metcalf (Arkansas) and cornerback Tevis Metcalf (Arkansas).

All three shared pictures of their lockers on their Instagram stories, revealing their jersey numbers. Williams will wear No. 0, TJ Metcalf is No. 7 and Tevis Metcalf will sport No. 24.

For Williams, ‘0’ is a new look. He wore No. 8 at Clemson. Michigan has an opening at that digit, since EDGE Josaiah Stewart graduated and is expected to be a high NFL Draft pick this April. The number was made famous on the defensive side of the ball at Michigan by nickel back Mike Sainristil, who just had a standout rookie season with the Washington Commanders, who made the NFC championship game.

Over his five-year career that spanned 44 games with four starts, Williams totaled 35 tackles, 10 stops for loss, 4 sacks and 2 pass breakups. Williams collected 14 tackles, including 3 for loss and 2 sacks, adding 2 pass breakups in 14 games this past season. Williams was a backup for most of the season but did earn starts in three outings — against Stanford, Louisville and Virginia Tech.

TJ Metcalf, meanwhile, wore No. 18 at Arkansas but has switched to single digits at No. 7. That digit was donned by Michigan safety Makari Paige last season, but. he’s out of eligibility and off to the NFL.

He racked up 57 tackles, including 1 for loss, 7 pass breakups and 3 interceptions as a sophomore, appearing in 12 games with 11 starts for the 6-6 Razorbacks. He was one of 35 Power Conference safeties with 3 or more interceptions last year. He saw action in 12 outings as a freshman in 2023, posting 15 tackles.

Tevis Metcalf was No. 24 at Arkansas and sticking with that look at Michigan. Last year, cornerback Myles Pollard sported those numbers, but he transferred to Memphis this offseason.

He played just 15 defensive snaps in two games as a freshman last year, but the 5-foot-10, 192-pounder did play in all 12 contests on special teams, featuring on the kick return, kick coverage and punt return units, among others.

Metcalf is a nickel who can play corner, providing versatility on the back end of Michigan’s defense.
