Corum was in the Heisman Trophy voting for the second year in a row after finishing 7th following the 2022 season. The Michigan captain had 218 rushes for 1,028 yards and 24 touchdowns. Corum has 3,520 career rush yards and a program-record 55 scores since arriving in Ann Arbor.

Corum will now look to lead Michigan to success in the College Football Playoff, which was the reason he returned to Ann Arbor for another season.

“The team we have right here, I don’t believe we need any extra (motivation),” Corum said. “We already have a chip on our shoulder. It didn’t need to come from the media calling us all types of names or coach getting suspended or anything like that,” he explained. “I feel like we’ve always felt like, it’s always been Michigan versus everybody and I think that’s the way we train. That’s our motto. That’s our mindset.

“Obviously, with everything going on, it definitely has brought more attention to us, more hatred, but we love it.”

McCarthy finished the regular season with 2,630 yards, 19 touchdowns and four interceptions. Earlier this season, Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh lobbied for Heisman consideration given his ability to set a tone for the team.

“[His] focus is to have a great day today, great meeting,” Harbaugh said. “I can’t wait to see J.J. He brings life. He’s an ignitor, and I know he’s going to come in this week and attack it like he has every single week. And because of that, you’ve seen growth, seen improvement. It’s really fun to be a part of it.”
