Here is a recap and box score from the first half of play.

First Quarter

Michigan started the game on offense and went three and out after a pair of runs and a drop on third down from third-year wideout Cornelius Johnson. Maryland responded with a six-play, 33-yard drive that ended in a missed field goal attempt from 48 yards out.

The Wolverines got on the board first on the following drive, going 70 yards in 11 plays to take a 7-0 lead. The drive was capped off by a touchdown pass from third-year quarterback Cade McNamara to tight end Luke Schoonmaker with 7:09 left in the quarter.

Michigan struck again with 1:08 to go in the first quarter to extend its lead to 14-0. Fourth-year running back Hassan Haskins finished an 8-play, 45-yard drive with a touchdown from a yard out, his 12th of the season. The highlight of the series was an 18-yard one-handed reception from freshman wideout Andrel Anthony in the red zone.

Michigan would lead 14-0 at the end of the first quarter.

Second quarter

Maryland drove down the field in 17 plays on its first offensive possession, but self-inflicted wounds hurt their cause. The Terrapins would settle for a 31-yard field goal from Joseph Petrino to narrow the deficit to 14-3 with 9:37 to play in the first half.

Michigan football struck back with 4:22 to go in the second quarter. A 13-yard pass from freshman J.J. McCarthy to third-year wideout Mike Sainristil put Michigan up 21-3. The drive went 42 yards in four plays after a blocked punt attempt set the Wolverines up in Terrapin territory.

The Wolverines had a chance to put another touchdown on the board at the end of the half, but a chop block was called on Schoonmaker. Michigan would settle for a 39-yard field goal from Jake Moody to take a 24-7 lead into the locker room.
