ANN ARBOR, Mich. — Michigan Wolverines football running backs coach Mike Hart, the head man of the winning Maize Team in the 22-21 spring game win, and players met with the media following the intrasquad scrimmage.

Hart discussed going for two for the win at the end and being a head coach for the week.

“I think it’s a lot easier to go for two in that situation when it’s the spring game,” Hart said with a laugh. “Easy decision there. We decided to go for two, tried to win the game and go from there.

“It’s been fun, honestly. [Michigan head] Coach [Jim Harbaugh] entrusted [safeties coach and special teams coordinator] Jay [Harbaugh] to have our own schedules, have our own meeting times, put everything together ourselves. It was nice. Coach wasn’t at practice, Coach let us do our thing, which was fun. Any situation like that is a learning moment, as a coach, as an assistant coach.”

Junior wide receiver Peyton O’Leary and graduate left guard Trevor Keegan also took the podium after the game.

O’Leary was one of the top standouts of the Michigan spring game. He caught the game-winning two-point conversion and had 6 receptions for 126 yards. He’d generated buzz in practice over the last couple seasons and showed it on the bigger stage today.

“I’ve been playing well recently,” O’Leary said. “Just sticking to my coaching. Luckily, the ball found me today. It was fun to put it on display today.”

Keegan discussed the Michigan team cohesiveness and goals.

“The culture that we have … after last year and the year before in the semifinal game, those losses dwelled on us. I think the culmination of everyone on the team, the staff, there’s one goal in mind — it’s to win, and it’s to win a national championship.”
