Michigan football was well-represented during the 2022 NFL Draft, sending five players to the next level. Some of the key figures in the team’s 2021 Big Ten Championship run will look to bring that pedigree to their NFL franchises.

EDGEs Aidan Hutchinson and David Ojabo, safety Daxton Hill, running back Hassan Haskins and offensive tackle Andrew Stueber were Michigan’s five draftees this go-round.

Michigan added to a few impressive program marks during the event. Defensive end Aidan Hutchinson’s selection with the No. 2 overall pick extended U-M’s streak to 84-straight years with a player drafted. Hutchinson and David Ojabo, who racked up 25 sacks as a pair in 2021, became the eighth and ninth EDGE defenders to be drafted in the Jim Harbaugh era. Every starting EDGE since 2015 has been selected in the draft.

Here is a recap of each Michigan player selected and where they came off the board.

EDGE Aidan Hutchinson – First round, No. 2 overall (Detroit Lions)

This one is obviously massively exciting for the hometown fans. Hutchinson stays home and gets the be the building block of a rebuilding defense just down the road from where he made his name. He is a perfect fit for head coach Dan Campbell and the culture being built there. He will be a team captain before his rookie contract is up and is the type of guy that could be cornerstone in Detroit for the next 10-12 years, at least.

Safety Daxton Hill – First round, No. 31 overall (Cincinnati Bengals)

With Cincinnati, Hill will compete with Vonn Bell for a spot at safety while also working in the slot. It will be interesting to see if he gets any work on the boundary, but there is plenty of room for three safeties on the field in today’s NFL. It is a great fit for him joining a team that should be in the conversation for a Super Bowl as long as Joe Burrow is quarterbacking them.

EDGE David Ojabo – Second round, No. 45 overall (Baltimore Ravens)

As far as the fit goes, none are more perfect in this draft. Ojabo is reunited with defensive coordinator Mike Macdonald, who helped him unlock his potential in 2021. The Ravens have no need to rush him along and he will get all the coaching and time he needs to be stud in that defense. The Harbaugh-to-Harbaugh pipeline continues, this time with the Ravens nabbing a first-round talent. This is as logical a fit as there is in this entire draft.

Running back Hassan Haskins – Fourth round, No. 131 overall (Tennessee Titans

Haskins now gets to work behind Derrick Henry, who is a workhorse that will carry most of the load. Henry is getting up there in running back years, so there could be a shot at some maintenance carries. Haskins will also contribute immediately on special teams and in goalline situations. He will compete with Dontrell Hilliard for the No. 2 running back job in Nashville.

Offensive tackle Andrew Stueber – Seventh round, No. 245 overall (New England Patriots)

Stueber brings good technique, a high football IQ and a mean streak to the next level. He has a road to being a starter down the road, especially as a developmental piece behind Trent Brown at right tackle. At the very least, he should be able to stick as a key reserve lineman with some swing potential. Stueber is rock solid and should be able to stick on the Patriots roster.

Michigan’s undrafted prospects

The rest of the crew – linebacker Josh Ross, safety Brad Hawkins, defensive tackle Chris Hinton, cornerback Vincent Gray and wide receiver Daylen Baldwin – will wait to hear their names called as undrafted free agents. If UDFA options are slim, some could still earn a training camp invite.
