ANN ARBOR, Mich. — Michigan Wolverines football offensive coordinators Sherrone Moore and Matt Weiss met with the media five days into U-M’s fall camp, marking the first media availability since Big Ten Media Days.

The two co-coordinators discussed the following topics among others:

• Michigan’s play-call operation, which will be collaborative. They didn’t reveal exactly how it will go on game days, but they have a plan in place and are executing it and learning. Weiss called it a Jim Harbaugh “stroke of genius” to have two coordinators while most others only have one.

• The Michigan skill positions, which many feel are loaded. Neither coordinator would speak about exactly how the offense will be different than last season, but both said the Maize and Blue will play to their strengths. Weiss added that Michigan’s offense will continue to “evolve,” and that could include opening up the pass game more. Overall, though, neither committed to an identity for the group because it’s so early in camp. Moore pointed out that it was midway through last year’s fall camp when they started to feel an identity forming.

• The quarterbacks. Michigan has two battling in senior Cade McNamara and sophomore J.J. McCarthy. Both are improved, Weiss said, and McCarthy is on the same pitch count as the other Michigan signal-callers after being limited most of the offseason with shoulder soreness. They’re keeping a close eye on how much each guy throws and what kind of other exercises they’re partaking in.
