Michigan football surges through AP Poll after beating Ohio State
Michigan football moved into the No. 2 spot behind Georgia in this week’s AP Poll coming off the 42-27 win over the Ohio State Buckeyes. The Wolverines completely control their own destiny in the College Football Playoff and will be in with a Big Ten Championship win over Iowa.

Michigan is one of four Big Ten teams ranked in this Sunday’s poll. The others are Ohio State (No. 7), Michigan State (No. 11) and Iowa (No. 15). Wisconsin, Minnesota, Purdue and Penn State were in the group of teams that received votes.
The AP Poll is of little consequence, however. With the College Football Playoff nearly in the grasp of the Wolverines, the big wait comes for Tuesday’s rankings. It would stand to reason that the top four in this week’s AP rankings would hold to form.
There is a lot on the line this week for Michigan. If Georgia beats Alabama in the SEC title game, the Wolverines are locked into the No. 2 spot. A Crimson Tide victory could put them somewhere inside the top two with Georgia slipping but still making the top four.

That is of little importance to Michigan if it cannot win on Saturday. Expect a focused group throughout the week that looks to get one more monkey off its back.
