Wolverine TV podcast: Michigan on Ryan Day's mind, more
The Michigan Wolverines took care of their business on the field this weekend against Rutgers, and continue to take steps each week to prepare to defend their Big Ten title. Ohio State figures to play into that battle, but are the Buckeyes and head coach Ryan Day a little too amped up too early?
Day’s bizarre rant towards Lou Holtz after a last-second win over Notre Dame was a topic of discussion on Monday night’s live show with The Wolverine’s Anthony Broome and Clayton Sayfie. After outscoring OSU 56-17 in the second half of the last two editions of The Game, he seems awfully triggered about the narrative around his program after back-to-back losses to the Wolverines.
“I’m really upset and disrespected about what Lou Holtz said about our team and Ohio State and Buckeye Nation. We’re not going to stand for that,” Day said. “We had one bad half a couple of years ago up in Ann Arbor. We did, the second half. Every game we play, we’re physical. I don’t know where that narrative comes from, but that ends tonight.”
“In life, when people start talking and say things about you, at some point you’ve got to put a foot in the ground. Our team did that. It was a life lesson. We always say, ‘Ignore the noise.’ Every once in a while, you’ve got to stand up for what you believe in.”
Is Day still feeling the heat from how the last few Michigan games have gone? It certainly feels that way, but it’s better to be about it than talk about it. And Michigan feels like it is well on its way.
