Michigan football is entering its third week of fall camp with plenty of position battles and other storylines to sort out. However, a handful of players from last year’s team elected to take their talents elsewhere since the Wolverine last hit the field.

Below is a list of guys from last year’s scholarship roster that will not suit up for Michigan this season, just as a refresher course.

TE Erick All

The Michigan captain and tight end missed most of last season with a back injury but stayed around as a vocal member during the 2022 season. There was apparently some bad blood between him and the Wolverines on the way out the door, which is unfortunate. He had 38 catches for 437 yards in 2021 and the game-winning touchdown at Penn State. Erick All still made his mark in Michigan football history but is now at Iowa with two seasons of eligibility left.

WR Andrel Anthony

A six-catch, 155-yard, two-touchdown performance at Michigan State in 2021 was the high point for the East Lansing native, who never quite found a consistent role with Michigan. Andrel Anthony has two years of eligibility remaining at Oklahoma after transferring this winter.

QB Alan Bowman

Alan Bowman came in to compete for the backup quarterback job in 2021 and appeared in seven games over two seasons. He transferred to Oklahoma State this offseason to compete for the starting job in his final season of eligibility.

DB Damani Dent

A three-star recruit in the 2022 class, Damani Dent transferred out and will play for former Michigan staffer Biff Poggi at Charlotte.

TE Louis Hansen

Louis Hansen redshirt in his first season at Michigan in 2021, but only appeared in two games last year. The former four-star recruit transferred to UConn to play for head coach Jim Mora following the 2022 season.

WR A.J. Henning

Michigan used A.J. Henning as a gadget guy in his first three years with the program, but he was never quite able to capture a consistent role on offense. The former four-star recruit made an impact as a wide receiver, rusher, kick returner and punt returner during his time in Ann Arbor and is now at Northwestern.

LB Nikhai Hill-Green

A post-spring transfer, Nikhai Hill-Green missed most of last season with a soft tissue injury. It looked like he was working his way back into a role in the linebackers room, but ultimately decided to head to Charlotte to play for Poggi after the spring game.

QB Cade McNamara

Cade McNamara is one of the most important figures in modern Michigan history, but also a polarizing player in the short-term. He led Michigan a Big Ten title and trip to the College Football Playoff in 2021, but was supplanted by J.J. McCarthy early last season, then was injured and transferred to Iowa the week of the Big Ten Championship game. He is expected to start for the Hawkeyes this upcoming season.

S RJ Moten

RJ Moten started at safety over the last two seasons at Michigan, but his playing time waned late last year as Rod Moore and Makari Paige held down the fort on the backend. With younger options emerging, Moten elected to transfer to Florida to play for his father’s alma mater after spring practices.

EDGE Eyabi Okie

It has been a wild ride for Eyabi Okie in his college career, who will spend the 2023 season at Charlotte. For those keeping track at home, that is his fifth school after spending time at Alabama, Houston, UT Martin and Michigan. The former five-star recruit followed Poggi, his high school coach, to play for the 49ers.

DT George Rooks

George Rooks was a four-star recruit in the 2021 class, but never found his footing in the defensive tackle rotation. He transferred to Boston College this offseason and will look to find a role there.

LB Deuce Spurlock

Deuce Spurlock suited up in a pair of games for Michigan last year, but elected to go to Florida this offseason.

EDGE Taylor Upshaw

The former Michigan EDGE was a solid part of the rotation last season, but is now on his third team in the last calendar year. Taylor Upshaw originally committed to Deion Sanders at Colorado and went through spring ball there before transferring to Arizona. He has one season of eligibility remaining.

EDGE Julius Welschof

The Hulking German product spent five seasons at Michigan with 34 appearance and 23 tackles to his name, but was never more than a role player. He is the fourth Wolverine on this list to head to Charlotte to play for Poggi.
