The Wolverine’s John Borton is joined today by Michigan football and basketball radio voice Brian Boesch to discuss position battles in fall camp and much more. Men’s basketball head coach Juwan Howard also made a visit to football’s preseason prep, which was discussed by Howard on Thursday in Ann Arbor.
“That’s a situation of brotherhood,” Howard told the media. “You have an amazing coach in [Jim Harbaugh] and the staff, and all the hard work they put in this summer leading up to where they are now. And I’m sure whether their goals, as far as where they’re trying to go as a team, knowing that an end goal is a championship, that’s what we all try to compete for and win. It is nice to see a great staff and players buy into the staff and see that connection. I’ve always been one of those people that have been a big fan of football and a huge fan of the Michigan football program.”
Other topics include:
— Boesch’s first impressions after hearing the Big Ten Media Days chatter and first week of practice
— A key position battle on each side of the ball.
— Thoughts on Michigan’s non-conference schedule… too easy, or no worries?
— Jon Jansen saying Donovan Edwards could be the best RB in the nation this year.
— Gut feeling on 2022

Donovan Edwards hype intensifies
Michigan color analyst Jon Jansen’s comments about Edwards recently raised an eyebrow. He proclaimed him the potential best back in college football during a recent episode of In The Trenches with Brian Boesch.
“Offensively — and I’m probably not going out on a huge limb here because we saw a lot at the end of the football season last year — I think Donovan Edwards is going to be the best running back in college football,” Jansen said.
“This year?” Boesch questioned.
“This year,” Jansen confirmed. “Because of what I’ve seen him do in the offseason, what we saw him do and how he grew in the offense last year.
“The thing that makes Donovan so dangerous is yeah, you can hand the ball to him and he’s going to have explosive plays. Going to be powerful, run through tackles. He’s going to be hard to tackle. He’s a guy that can hit the edge, can go right up the middle and when he breaks free, is not going to be caught. [Edwards is not] a guy that’s rumbling, stumbling then all of a sudden gets caught at the two-yard line. When he breaks free, he’s going to the distance.”
Michigan would love that to be the case as it looks to defend its Big Ten title.
