The Wolverine Live: Biggest storylines heading into Week 2 vs. Hawaii
Michigan football grabbed a 51-7 win over Colorado State on opening weekend to kick off its Big Ten Championship defense in 2022. It was a casually dominant day headlined by 8 sacks and 11 tackles for loss as a defensive unit while the offense did enough to take care of business.
Still, there are plenty of topics to sift through heading into the second week of the year with Hawaii in town on Saturday night. The Wolverines have been installed as 51-point favorites.
Each Tuesday night at 5:30 p.m. ET, John Borton of The Wolverine and a rotating cast of guests will discuss the biggest storylines from the weekend and take your questions live on our YouTube channel. Borton is joined this week by guest Tom Crawford.
This week’s topics include:
— How Michigan football’s quarterbacks played in the opener
— Signs of a pass rush in a big way after 8 sacks, 11 tackle for loss
— Impact of new defensive coordinator Jesse Minter and defensive line coach Mike Elston
— Was the offensive line’s performance a cause for concern?
— Hawaii and the JJ McCarthy debut

Harbaugh weighs in on Michigan quarterback performances
Despite McCarthy’s 4-for-4, 30 yards passing with 50 yards rushing and a touchdown performance, head coach Jim Harbaugh liked what he saw in Week 1 from McNamara as the battle rages on.
“I thought Cade had a really solid game,” Harbaugh said Monday. “I think he walked away mad at him self for missing [senior widest Cornelius Johnson] on the crossing route [in the first quarter] and threw the ball to C.J. a little wide on the opposite boundary [on the first drive]. Other than that, he made some terrific throws … [including] on the two-minute drive.
“That’s just how he is. He’s a perfectionist. I thought it was a really solid game.”
Michigan hosts Hawaii in Week 2 at 8 p.m. ET on Big Ten Network. McCarthy gets the start at quarterback with the staff set to make a further determination ahead of Week 3 versus UConn.
