Wolverine TV: Quick reaction to Kirk Campbell hire
Michigan football has its new quarterbacks coach in Kirk Campbell, the program announced on Friday. Now, the offseason can truly begin with everyone locked in.
Michigan had an open spot on the coaching staff after the dismissal of Matt Weiss last week. After a bit of a search, head coach Jim Harbaugh elected to elevate Campbell to a full-time position. He was brought in last offseason as an offensive analyst and served as quarterbacks coach and offensive coordinator at Old Dominion in 2020 through 2021.
Prior to his time at Old Dominion. Campbell was an offensive analyst at Penn State from 2017-19, assisting in quarterback meetings and being part of a team that averaged 36.9 points per game, among the best marks in school history.

Reports from The Wolverine’s Chris Balas indicated that Campbell had vocal supporters for his candidacy in Schembechler Hall, including quarterbacks J.J. McCarthy and Davis Warren. Now he will be tasked with helping recruit the next generation, which revolves around Jadyn Davis in 2024, Ryan Montgomery in 2025 and more. Given his background is in college football more than Weiss, it seems that he will inherently be more of an asset on the recruiting trail.
No other tag was included in his job title, hinting at offensive line coach Sherrone Moore taking on full offensive coordinator duties in 2023. Michigan’s offensive staff is set again with Campbell coaching quarterbacks, Moore coaching the offensive line and coordinating the offense, Mike Hart coaching the running backs, Ron Bellamy overseeing wide receivers and Grant Newsome in charge of tight ends.
