Wolverine TV: Reacting to the Jim Harbaugh potential suspension
Michigan football is gearing up for its annual appearance at Big Ten Football Media Days in Indianapolis this week, but it has another off-field storyline to deal with this offseason. The saga between head coach Jim Harbaugh and the NCAA has resurfaced, and this time it looks like we are closer to a punishment coming down.
According to multiple media reports, Harbaugh could be headed for a four-game suspension from the NCAA for his role in holding up an investigation into recruiting violations within the program. The Wolverine’s John Borton and co-host Tom Crawford discussed the ongoing plot thread in this week’s live show.
The timing of the report just before Michigan’s media day appearance on Thursday seems a bit curious, and that caught the attention of Crawford as they opened the show.
“It seems a little weird,” Crawford said. “I mean, it’s just too ironic. Once again, we’re going to get away from talking about football. We’re talking about another potential infraction. We just saw what Tennessee, the Tennessee thing came down a little bit before SEC Media Days. Maybe that’s kind of how they do that. Although Tennessee’s were pretty significant versus going down to The Brown Jug and buying a couple of burgers at an inappropriate, no recruiting interaction COVID time. Then I guess not being enough forthcoming warrants a four-game suspension.
“I need to really know more about that and we’ll hopefully learn more about that in the coming weeks. We’re going to learn before the season starts. But bottom line, if Jim Harbaugh is indeed suspended for four games, what kind of an impact does that have when you really think about it?”
