There’s much anticipation heading into the Michigan Wolverines football season, and TheWolverine.com is counting down the days until the Sept. 2 opener against East Carolina. We’ll discuss current Michigan events, the upcoming season and/or take a look at a significant number that correlates with how many days remain until kickoff, whether it be a player’s jersey number, a year, a date, a score, etc.

Michigan football finally vanquished its rival, the Ohio State Buckeyes, with a 42-27 victory over Ohio State in 2021, its first win in the series since 2011. Running back Hassan Haskins matched a school record with five rushing touchdowns in the game and defensive end Aidan Hutchinson had three sacks in the effort.

With 42 days to go and six weeks to go until kickoff, today we recap the 42 points and six touchdowns scored against the Bucks.

First quarter – 10:12 (7-0, Michigan)

Michigan got on the board first in the 2021 edition of The Game with a 10-play, 75-yard drive on the opening sequence of the game. The drive was closed out by a 14-yard run from wide receiver A.J. Henning on a reverse up the right sideline.

After Jake Moody's extra point, the Wolverines took a 7-0 lead to start the contest.

Second quarter – 3:51 (14-10, Michigan)

Ohio State scored the next 10 points after the first Michigan touchdown thanks to a 31-yard field goal from Noah Ruggles and a 25-yard touchdown pass from C.J. Stroud to Garrett Wilson.

Michigan responded to the touchdown with a 13-play, 82-yard drive that took 5:21 off the clock and finished it off with a 1-yard touchdown run from Haskins. After the Moody extra point, Michigan took the lead back at 14-10.

Third quarter – 11:50 (21-13, Michigan)

OSU got a field goal right before the half to narrow the deficit to 14-13 entering the locker room. Michigan came out of the half with its hair on fire, putting together a quick three-play, 81-yard drive capped off by a 13-yard Haskins touchdown run, his second of the day.

Moody's third extra point made it 21-13 in favor of the Wolverines.

Third quarter – 5:49 (28-13, Michigan)

Momentum truly started to tilt the Wolverines' way late in the third quarter. Michigan's five-play, 78-yard drive was closed out with Haskins' third rushing score of the afternoon, another 1-yard run.

Moody's fourth extra-point attempt was successful, helping Michigan go up 15 points heading into the fourth quarter.

Fourth quarter – 9:14 (35-20, Michigan)

OSU would not go away, putting together a 17-play, 82-yard drive that ended in a TreVeyon Henderson touchdown from one yard out with 14:05 to go. Michigan may have had to hold on for dear life, but it instead continued to hammer away at the Bucks.

The Wolverines followed up the OSU score with a nine-play, 66 yard drive that ended in Haskins' fourth touchdown run of the day, this time from two yards out. Moody banged through his fifth extra point and the Wolverines would lead 35-20 with a little over nine minutes to play.

Fourth quarter – 2:17 (42-27, Michigan)

Ohio State's offense had another long drive in it after the Michigan score. The Buckeyes went 75 yards in 13 plays, ending their scoring push with a 10-yard pass from Stroud to Henderson. Hutchinson nearly got a fingertip on the pass, but came up just short.

It did not matter.

Michigan charged right back and went 63 yards in five plays, essentially forcing the OSU defense to quit on a four-yard touchdown run from Haskins, his fifth of the contest. Moody's extra point put the score at 42-27, and things would end that way.
