WATCH: Roman Wilson, Trevor Keegan, Drake Nugent discuss revamped bowl prep, more from L.A.
The Michigan Wolverines offensive contingent made its way to the Sheraton Grand Los Angeles hotel on Friday morning for its Rose Bowl media availability with wide receiver Roman Wilson and graduate offensive linemen Drake Nugent and Trevor Keegan among the attendees.
One of the major storylines of Michigan’s Rose Bowl prep has been its revamped practice schedule, which has seen the team take a step back from a physicality perspective and focus on mental reps and details. Wilson told the media on Friday that he feels like it has paid off in a big way.
“For me personally, I feel like the level of detail and execution and focus has just gone up to a whole notch and a little bit of excitement and energy and just there’s good vibrance all around,” Wilson said. “You don’t really see the sun too much this time of the year in Michigan. So it’s something that’s different when you come out here.
“I feel like the coaches are trying to do a good job of taking care of our body before each game. It’s a long season, so you don’t want to burn yourself out, you know, towards the last couple of games.
“I feel like the rhythm is getting better. You know, we have that time off. We don’t have games where you still have practice. And you know, you get to refine the small things and just, you know, get a little better. So I feel like our rhythm is, is, is going up from there.”

“Great technique. The defensive coordinator really sets them up for success. Really smart football players. You can see that. Just how gap-sound they are and the effort they play with and the strain. It’s going to be a strain battle. Who can strain the longest? We’re excited for that. They have really good players. Their backers are always in the correct spots. Interior guys do a good job anchoring. Secondary is really talented. We’re excited for the challenge.
Graduate offensive lineman Drake Nugent
Nugent on committing to Michigan this time last year and envisioning CFP berth:
“I definitely envisioned it a little bit. When they lost that Fiesta Bowl, I knew the team would be hungry and that excited me. I knew that the following year the Rose Bowl was a playoff game, and I’ve always wanted to play in the Rose Bowl as a Pac-12 guy. This has been on my mind the whole year and I knew exactly what I was getting into.”
