Michigan football's Jack Stewart enters the transfer portal
Michigan football will be down another lineman in 2022. Veteran Jack Stewart, who came in as an offensive lineman and moved to the defensive line, has entered the transfer portal and will not be back next season.

Stewart (6-4, 314), a former consensus three-star recruit out of New Canaan, Conn., arrived on campus in 2019. He has not seen any game action in his three years with the program.
“I’ve had a great experience playing both (offensive line) and (defensive line) at the University of Michigan,” he tweeted. “Thank you for everything Ann Arbor. I’ve very excited to see where this new journey takes me.”
Stewart got caught up in a numbers game on the offensive line, so he made the switch to defensive line two seasons ago. He played both ways and registered 31 tackles, five sacks and four tackles for loss in earning MVP honors for his high school team.
The Michigan defensive line has continued to get stronger, however, and he’s been pushed down the depth chart. Head coach Jim Harbaugh has called interior lineman Mazi Smith perhaps the team’s best defensive player. Chris Hinton left early for the NFL, but Kris Jenkins has improved, and Mike Morris can play inside or out.

True freshman Mason Graham has become a candidate for early playing time inside, and several others are vying for time, as well. Odds weren’t great that Stewart would see the field this year, either.
“There are quite a few that are attempting to fill it and doing a really good job,” Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh said on the In the Trenches podcast with Jon Jansen recently.
The Wolverines are the favorite to land UCF’s Cam Goode, another interior lineman, from the transfer portal, as well.
